Dorothy Hamill’s Adult Skating Camp – Pricey?

3 Jun

“Be your own champion and indulge in your own skating dream.

Come and skate with my friends and me.

You provide the skates and I’ll provide the fun and fulfillment.

I look forward to skating with you.”

~ Dorothy Hamill (from her website)

Dorothy Hamill will be hosting a Fantasy Skating Camp for adults in September. It will be take place on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts. 5 days of training and chock full of lessons from Peter Carruthers, Randy Gardner and other guests.

Does this sound like a dream come true to you? You must be 21 yrs or older to participate.

I have to tell you-that when I first heard about this I was so very excited. The type of excited where you jump and down to tell everyone you see! I mean, really, its not everyday you get a chance to be trained by an olympic icon and her very talented skater friends! And, well, lets face it- as adults we are not used to any major training camp. Ok- so there are few popping up here and there. I went to one a few years back with Don Jackson and Liz Manley.

Amazing. Absolutely Amazing. Seriously. I never thought I’d see a 70+ man spin on skate and then pop into a double. Yes, while in the spin. So, these camps are definitely worth it but are still somewhat rare.

So, as I was eagerly perusing Dorothy’s Fantasy Skating Camp site for more info I suddenly saw something that made my heart drop.

The price. OMG. $4,500 IF you sign up by June 20.

Good god…that’s nuts. I already spend enough just on freestyle sessions, skates (every 5 years) and regular lessons!

Well, that’s one dream that died a quick death. This is not even remotely affordable for the average skating fan. Not even CLOSE.

So, with a heavy heart and a hearty sigh I pass along the info to those who have the buckaroos to buy themselves a pass to adult skating heaven.

Sniff. I guess that’s why this blog is still called dream2skate….
