Evgeni training for the Olympics!

21 May

So, now Plushenko (26yrs) is getting in on the action. This does makes things interesting. The Irina of male figure skating in my mind, he is completely amazing with his quads although falls flat in my mind on the artistic side. He racks those points up though! I can’t believe he has decided to come back. I think this Olympics is going to be a shocker, everyone wants a piece of the action! As long as Plushenko’s knees hold up he has a great chance.

Despite my previous comments, I do like Evgeni and I can’t wait to see his new program during the GrandPrix. His jumps are definitely comparable to what the men are doing now. If anything, he is probably still at the top of the field with the amount of quads that he can do.

Watch out Brian Joubert! (although he’s kind of fallen off a bit) Well, then definitely Evan should be watching Evgeni because this is going to be his main competition.

On a personal front, did you know he is recently divorced? Yep, Russia’s most popular skating man is back on the market. You can check this news out and more at

I wonder who else is coming back?

Johnny Weir. Pop Star On Ice?

20 May

Alright, well none of us are all that surprised. Johnny Weir now has a documentary premiering May 24 at the Seattle Film Festival called “Pop Star On Ice.” And, who didn’t see that coming a mile away?

It looks interesting and I am definitely intrigued! To say the least. I won’t be at any of the locations that the film is being showed at so I am slightly bummed. I am sure it will be available to the public soon. It sounds like an Eminem soundtrack on the trailer. Rap about ice skating, huh. I never thought I would see the day!

It looks like Johnnie has finally found his outlet- he is very much the diva and while I didn’t enjoy his tantrums on and off the ice in the early days I have always loved his artistic skating.

He is probably my favorite male skater, although I admit that its probably because it is almost like watching one of the female skaters. However, he is such a fluid and graceful skater its hard not to be impressed, despite his sometimes questionable behavior.
You know what though? I think we need these types of personalities in skating to liven it up a bit and to give it a face. Much like the other sports, we need some spark that ignites the public and peaks their interest.
It may not always be the most clean face of skating but its real and its interesting and I guess that’s what counts for now. So check out the film trailer, you’ll be intrigued.

Sasha is back?!

19 May

Well, I love it! I am not Sasha’s biggest fan but I still love her skating. Now that she has announced her intention to try and compete at the olympics I am very excited. Super excited as a matter of fact. Now we have a face that has meaning to it and that can make some type of media impact on the US public. Figure skating really needs a media lift this year. Its really dying in the US and its such a shame. Its overshadowed by Football and Hockey etc. I keep saying they should really show all the pain, falls, bruises that go into training and then maybe people would see just how difficult it is. Of course, I know they have had reality shows on before (last olympics) about the training. I think some of them came across as whiny teenagers (my thoughts πŸ˜‰
Maybe they should film the training of sasha, yuna and maybe Mao?
This is awesome news though! Move over Yuna and Mao… Sasha might just climb to the top this time.

Now, if we could just nail down Michelle.

That might be more of a stretch. She has more then proven that she is a great competitor and I do think it might be too difficult in this system for Michelle to come back to competition. She would have to start at the bottom again too. Hmmph. However… her and Sasha together? Trying to make the Olympic team?? Amazing. That would just be so fascinating to watch. May 30 is her cut off date. So we’ll all know soon what Michelle decides. So exciting!
